Describes how the EASITMsystem achieves the goals of ECG monitoring while addressing the challenges. The conventional 12-Lead ECG, employing 10 electrodes, is the current standard for diagnostic electrocardiography. It uses four electrodes on the limbs (LA, RA, LL, RL) and six on the chest (V1-V6).

Because of these challenges, Dower et al., 1988 proposed a modified set-up that can derive 12-lead ECG signals from only 5 ECG channels. This set-up is called the EASI method. The EASI method benefits from: High reproducibility (because landmarks for electrode placement are easy to identify) High signal-to-noise ratios (less movement artefacts)

EASI™ Lead Placement EASI monitoring is available on all IntelliVue Patient Monitors. To monitor with EASI lead placement, you must enable EASI in the Setup ECG menu under Lead Placement. EASI derived 12-Lead ECGs and their measurements are approximations to conventional 12-Lead ECGs and should not be used for diagnostic interpretations.

EASI provides a good approximation to the conventional 12-lead ECG. However, EASI may also generate ECG waveforms with amplitudes and durations that differ from the 12-lead ECG. This lead system is generated by using electrodes I, E and A from Frank’s leads, and by adding electrode S to the manubrium.
