EDEX is the Environmental Data Exchange system that represents the backend server for AWIPS. EDEX is only supported for Linux systems: CentOS and RHEL, and ideally, it should be on its own dedicated machine. It requires administrator priviledges to make root-level changes. EDEX can run on a single machine or be spread across multiple machines.

AWIPS takes a unified approach to data ingest, and most data types follow a path through the system starting with an LDM client requesting data from the Unidata IDD. These data files are then decoded and stored as HDF5 and Postgres metadata by EDEX .

NSF Unidata and XSEDE Jetstream have partnered to offer an EDEX data server in the cloud, open to the community. Select the server in the Connectivity Preferences dialog, or enter edex-cloud.unidata.ucar.edu (without http:// before, or :9581/services after).

2024年10月23日 · AWIPS 23.4.1-0.4 is a full beta release, with both EDEX and CAVE installation options. This release (building upon previous versions 23.*) includes a major upgrade for the operating system, running on Rocky 8 Linux – which is a free Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) distribution for EDEX and linux based CAVE.

The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is a meteorological software package. It is used for decoding, displaying, and analyzing data, and was originally developed for the National Weather Service (NWS) by Raytheon.

2025年1月3日 · We do have a new public EDEX Server version 23.4.1 (edex-beta.unidata.ucar.edu) that has been available since August. NOTE: You will have to update the version of CAVE to 23.4.1 in order to connect to the v23 EDEX Server. Jetstream2, the cloud service where we host our public EDEX, will be going down for maintenance from Jan 6 - 9, 2025.
