Only the pear wood head and arm of Elizabeth now survives. The plaster head of Elizabeth of York's husband is a death mask. Mary I’s wooden body and head were re-united for the new display but her face is not a good likeness.

Masks have been part of the ritual of death for millennia. Some, such as those of Egyptian pharaohs, were idealized representations of the deceased, designed for the tomb. Others, such as the death masks of ancient Rome, preserved the exact face at the moment of death.
Probably carved from his death mask, it is likely that it gives a relatively accurate impression of Edward’s appearance. The gilt bronze efigy made for his tomb (Fig. 2) is a more generalised image of a medieval king, although the face is not dissimilar from the wooden efigy.

Edward III and Philippa of Hainault - Westminster Abbey
Philippa's coronation took place a few weeks after their marriage. The king died of a stroke at Sheen Palace on 21st June 1377. His embalmed body lay there for about two weeks, draped in black cloth. A torch lit procession then accompanied the coffin to London, which first stopped at St Paul's cathedral for a funeral requiem and vigil.
