Edward G. Leffler was an American former salesman of aluminium pots and pans, who introduced in 1924 the mutual fund. [1] He was selling securities for six years before starting the first mutual fund. [2] He was of Swedish descent from Wisconsin. [3]

The Edward R. and Anne G. Lefler Center for the Study of Neurodegenerative Disorders was established at Harvard Medical School in May of 1995. For over 20 years, The Lefler Center has served as a nexus for researchers dedicated to identifying a cure for Alzheimer’s and other devastating diseases of the nervous system.

Edward Lefler died in May 1994, after suffering for ten years from Alzheimer’s disease. In their will, the Leflers specified that most of their estate be used to study the disease, hoping to alleviate the suffering of others like them.

The Edward R. and Anne G. Lefler Center for the Study of Neurodegenerative Disorders was established at Harvard Medical School in May of 1995. The Lefler Funds support faculty, postdoctoral fellows and predoctoral students doing innovative studies that shed light on neurogenesis, neurodegeneration and other neurological diseases.
