Same with the term sniper rifle, assault rifle, PDW, magnum, etc. But generally like those other terms they tend to have specific characteristics, in the case of an elephant gun usually a gun that shoots a very large heavily projectile in an odd caliber.

A character who carries a typical late-19th century "elephant gun"(AKA a stopping rifle) is carrying a gun that weighs three to five times that of his friends' typical hunting rifle or shotgun. He's also carrying maybe a dozen rounds for it, while they carry a 100 or more for theirs.

Post-timeskip is where it gets a bit complicated. At first it seems random but everything has an animal name in them, Kong gun, elephant gun, grizzly magnum, rhino schneider. It's animal + weapon.

2023年2月9日 · It's a gimmick gun, let's be clear. But it will kill people. It does damage out to 50 paces, and then drops to zero. Shotguns are viable out to 20 or so, and aiming up-lose on a Carcano or Rolling Block with a scope is a pain.
