It was Smith's first solo record on a major record label, though he had previously released music on a major label with his band Heatmiser's final album, Mic City Sons (1996).. 1998年8月25日 · Plain Recordings looks to have released two different reissues of XO in 2008. One is on white vinyl and this pressing is on black vinyl. It's on 180g vinyl. The center labels have a different design than the original Bong Load pressing (see photos below). The spine is the same as described in the white vinyl entry below.

As Sweet Adeline opens proceedings with its gorgeous George Harrison-esque melancholy, we’re immediately thrust into Smith’s new world of kaleidoscopic brightness partially obscured by the greyest of clouds.

The masterful and magnetic “Waltz #2 (XO)” is another portrait of family disaster, while the jangling and near-joyous “Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands” is actually a bitter screed for the friends worried about his assorted chemical enthusiasms.
