Emily Richter is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2023-24. Last season, her roles included Second Wood Sprite in Rusalka, Ginevra in Ariodante, and Ines in Il Trovatore. This season, her roles include Berta in The Barber of Seville, Iphigénie in Iphigénie en Tauride, and “Ma” Zegner in Proving Up.

In this recital we welcome first-year Ensemble soprano Emily Richter, and second-year mezzo-soprano Lucy Baker who will be collaborating with pianist Michael Banwarth. They will be heard in works by Samuel Barber, Florence Price, and H.T. Burleigh.

Richter has spent her summers as an apprentice artist at Santa Fe Opera, Central City Opera, and the Seagle Festival. A first-prize winner of The Wirth Prize and The Mildred Miller Competition, she holds a Master's Degree from McGill's Schulich School of Music and a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance from Lawrence University.

A compassionate storyteller, lyric soprano Emily Richter aims to connect to her audience with a sparkling tone and open heart. She is currently a Resident Artist at Pittsburgh Opera where she will be returning next season.
