The Wartburg 311 is a car produced by East German car manufacturer VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach from 1956 to 1965. The 311 model was manufactured in a number of variations, including pickup, sedan, limousine, coupé, and as a two-seat roadster. The two-stroke engine was enlarged to 992 cc in 1962.

2019年11月5日 · With no prospects for what they really wanted to do, Eisenach’s staffers developed, in secret, the EMW 311 – a new car with new styling by Hans Fleischer. When DKW/Auto Union threatened legal action as BMW had, the 311 got the greenlight from the politburo – as the Wartburg 311.

アイゼナハー・モトーレンヴェルク （Eisenacher Motorenwerk, 略称： EMW）は、旧 ドイツ民主共和国 （東ドイツ）で 自動車製造 を行っていた 国営企業 (VEB)。 所在地は テューリンゲン州 アイゼナハ で、社名は「アイゼナハ自動車工場」の意。

1956年，这家企业的首款汽车诞生也不再以EMW或者AME命名，而是之前的老品牌Wartburg 型号为311。 发展自另一家德国老牌车企的DWF-F9/8，也就是奥迪的前身。

In 1956, the first Wartburg (Type 311 and later the 312) was launched with a new design, but maintaining the DKW based two-stroke engine. The Wartburg 353, introduced in 1966, received a new body, but still used the two-stroke engine, now with a displacement of 1000 cc.

Staunend standen die Genossen vor dem auf Hochglanz polierten, viertürigen Fahrzeugtyp EMW 311, dem ersten Wartburg. Der überraschenden Offerte der Arbeiterklasse konnte sich die Partei, trotz des Vergehens gegen die Planvorgaben, nicht verschließen.

Der Wartburg 311 war ein PKW des Automobilwerks Eisenach mit Dreizylinder - Zweitaktmotor, der von 1955 bis 1965 hergestellt wurde. Nach der Hubraum vergrößerung 1962 kam die Bezeichnung Wartburg 1000 hinzu. Äußerlich kaum verändert, wurde das Fahrzeug bis 1967 in einer weiterentwickelten Variante als Wartburg 312 weiterproduziert.

The Wartburg 311 was a product of post war car development from behind the Iron Curtain, the pre-war Automobilwerk Eisenach (AWE) having passed through Soviet hands after the War before becoming Eisenacher Motorenwerk (EMW) in 1952, part of the BMW empire but owned by the East German government.
