Chimney chase was constructed on outside wall of the addition, with 2x4 wood stud construction, Roxul mineral wool insulation in stud bays, Zip sheathing at the exterior, Thermoply at the interior for vapor barrier, and 5/8" fire-rated GWB over that.

Sep 18, 2008 · I designed a chase, but later ended up running mine inside the house for other reasons. Never could find anything worthwhile on the web. What I did find is that if you go this route you'll probably want to simply build it out of 2x4 construction and insulate the exterior walls (bringing the chimney inside the "envelope" of the house).

Nov 3, 2013 · The chase from the point where it exits the roof is 68". The required height of the chimney is 74" to meet the 10-3-2 rule for chimney termination. Do you think 18" square is too slender for that height of a chase?

Oct 27, 2006 · Chase construction is often outlined in the install manual. Alot of times though they want it insulated atleast up to the firestop level which is usually the first floor level (so your 8ft. mark would make sense). From there up insulation alot of times is optional but highly recommended if your in a cold climate.

Dec 5, 2008 · Installing the chimney and stovepipe the Selkirk way is necessary for safety and code compliance. A 5' chase above the roof might require some internal (remember the 2" clearance requirements) angle bracing to prevent lateral movement. Would suggest you screw the chase to the support structure you must build to anchor the chase to the roof.

Jan 29, 2008 · So I'm installing a new fireplace and am in the process of reconstructing the chimney chase interior. It is 28' high, it was only insulated to 8', and the first (and only) firestop for the previous unit was not insulated on top. The manual for my new stove says to line the chase with Type X drywall. Ok, somewhat blindly I follow the instructions.
