The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is an American single-engine, supersonic interceptor which was extensively deployed as a fighter-bomber during the Cold War.

2021年5月23日 · First USAF fighter to fly above Mach 2, the F-104 Starfighter made its appearance in the 1950s when it was decided to replace the still airworthy F-100 Super Sabre with a fighter which could be used mainly as an interceptor. Planning started in 1952 and the first of two prototypes took to the air on March 4, 1954.

2023年5月1日 · Lockheed F-104N (N813NA) Three F-104N Starfighters were specially built for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to support research at the NASA Flight Research Center at Edwards AFB, California.

NASA accepted three specially built F-104s in late 1963 for use as pilot proficiency aircraft, low lift over drag trainers, and chase planes. These received the designation "F-104N." The aircraft in the foreground, N811NA, was delivered on August 19, 1963.
