Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as the United States' first swept-wing fighter that could counter the swept-wing Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights in the skies of the Korean War (1950–1953), fighting some of the earliest jet-to-jet battles in history.

North American F-86L (F-86D) Sabre The F-86D is the radar equipped all-weather interceptor version of the Sabre. The aircraft is really a completely new design based on the F-86 and in fact it was initially designated as the F-95A.

The F-86L was an upgraded conversion of F-86D with new electronics, extended wingtips and wing leading edges, revised cockpit layout, and uprated engine. A total of 981 F-86D planes were converted to the F-86L.
