2022年2月2日 · Hi, When flying the standard F18, I have issues with the flaps behaving quite unpredictably. I understand that they are intended to be automatic, however they seem to react too quickly. As I try and trim for stable flight, this can be disrupted by the flaps going up and down. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a workaround? Thanks.

2025年2月9日 · The flaps are assigned to a button on the throttle. Upon takeoff, the flaps continually close and open depend on speed. If you hit full afterburn, they close all the way.

2008年6月15日 · It's not an issue: the real F/A-18 has Autoflaps. They automatically extend and retract, depending on certain parameters in the flight, like speed and angle of attack. In this airplane you don't directly control the flap position with the flap control, you control the amount of flap extension that the autoflap logic is allowed to use.

2019年11月1日 · In short: Yes the F18 uses differential (asymmetric) deflections on the leading edge flaps and trailing edge flaps but the scheduling depends on angle of attack, airspeed and Mach number.

TL/DR: Best practices for flaps AUTO, HALF and FULL setting? New DCS F/A-18 pilot here (coming from BFS F-16). In the Viper I never touched the flaps, they are on auto all the time and the flight computer did everything even when landing.

2008年3月12日 · You are correct, half flaps for takeoff and full for landings. The takeoff checklist verified proper half-flap settings and we always checked for the following: 12 degrees LEF (Leading Edge Flap) down, 30 degrees TEF (Trailing Edge Flap) down, rudders "toed in" 30 degrees each and finally the horizontal stabs 12 degrees aft edge up.

2025年1月1日 · Anyone flies the F-18 with full span flap and flaperons and tailerons like the full scale on landings? I’ve seen only with flaps and conventional ailerons so far. Is there a reason for not using that configuration for these F-18s? What size are you talking about? My 1/7th BVM flys perfectly fine in standard aileron and tail configuration.

2024年1月30日 · The F22 has thrust vectoring to help with extreme maneuvers without aerodynamic aids. It also has a stealth requirement that forces a much cleaner design. You should compare the YF-17 to the YF-16 and then compare the F-18 to the aircraft it replaced (including the F-4).
