Built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in May 1979 and numbered 307. Retired by Amtrak in December 2003, it was purchased by the North Carolina Transportation Museum Foundation for $1.00 in 2004 for eventual display at the museum's back shop in Spencer, NC.

Built in 1979 as part of a large order of passenger locomotives, Amtrak 307 served for many years in long distance service before being purchased by NCTM for future restoration and display.
