The Vought F7U Cutlass is a United States Navy carrier-based jet fighter and fighter-bomber designed and produced by the aircraft manufacturer Chance Vought. It was the first tailless production fighter in the United States as well as the Navy's first jet equipped with swept wings and the first to be designed with afterburners .

A Vought F7U-3 Cutlass of VF-124 suffered a ramp strike on landing aboard USS Hancock during carrier qualifications off of the California coast. The aircraft broke up and burst into flames as it swerved off the side of the deck into the water.

2018年7月14日 · Alkire’s aircraft, Vought F7U-3 Cutlass Bureau Number (BuNo) 129595, side number 412, struck the ramp and the jet exploded and disintegrated around him. Burning jet fuel was deposited in the port side deck edge catwalk. This video, uploaded to YouTube by sdasmarchives, includes extensive footage of the mishap. It’s not easy to watch.

2022年7月13日 · This Vought F7U crashed on the USS Hancock and killed the pilot, LCDR Jay Alkire, on July 14, 1955. LCDR Alkire was apparently stunned and badly injured from the impact. As the F7U sank, Alkire was still trapped inside the cockpit unable to move.
