The Convair XF-92 (re-designated from XP-92 in 1948) is an American, delta wing, first-generation jet prototype. Originally conceived as a point-defence interceptor, the design was later used purely for experimental purposes and only one was built.

The XF-92A was the world's first jet aircraft to fly with the radical delta-wing configuration pioneered by Germany's Dr. Alexander Lippisch. Convair used the knowledge learned from the XF-92 to design the delta-wing F-102, the U.S. Air Force’s first operational supersonic interceptor.

The XF-92’s engine was soon determined to be impractical, and the project was canceled in 1948.

The Convair XF-92A, which made its first flight on 8 June 1948, was not the aircraft originally assigned the F-92 designation but a hybrid, hastily-built machine designed solely to test the delta wing planform. The US Air Force had obtained wartime German data on the delta wing from its leading proponent, Dr Alexander Lippisch.
