FCAS marks a major leap in European defence, aiming for full collaborative combat by 2040. It will integrate enhanced platforms such as the Eurofighter and Rafale, using AI, big data, cryptography, and human-machine interaction.

2024年6月28日 · Like other 6th-generation fighter jets, FCAS is intended to be a "system of systems." At its core will be a piloted 6th-generation fighter supported by a network of Unmanned Remote Carriers (aka loyal wingmen drones). These will be connected to other systems in the air, on the ground, at sea, in space, and in cyberspace via the "Combat Cloud."

While the name given to the new fighter aircraft that forms the centerpiece of the system was Project Tempest, FCAS includes a "game-changing mix of swarming drones and uncrewed aircraft" in addition to the new fighter jet. In addition, FCAS includes a new architecture for sensors, battlespace communications, networking and software.

In April 2018, Dassault Aviation and Airbus announced an agreement to cooperate on the development of a stealth fighter jet as a replacement for French Rafale, German Eurofighter and Spanish F-18 Hornet, also called Future Combat Air System (FCAS) or SCAF.
