Defend (防御 ぼうぎょ, Bōgyo?), also known as Guard and Def., is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. The user takes a defensive stance to mitigate the damage they take. Depending on the game, sometimes a status of the same name is applied when using the ability. The Defend command reduces damage taken for the turn in which it is used.
