Professor Cid Previa is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy V who also appears in the anime sequel Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals with the name "Shido". Cid is an elderly inventor and scholar residing in Karnak who researches the crystals, building amplification devices to improve their power.

When you head back to the Airship Base, Cid isn't there, but there is a note on the table in the workshop that tells of his location. You find him (and his grandson) at Tycoon Meteor. Boko2 is outside and is providing Cid and Mid with cozy travel.

Cid overcomes his fear (and his hangover) rather rapidly and realises that the next step is to find and protect the Earth Crystal. The group, having already covered this ground, tells him that they need the Fire Ship for that.

Several thousand Cids and Mids get the job done. They pronounce their job done to an astonished party, and tell you how to operate the new craft. They also warn of the dangers associated with the Floating Ruins: you have to beat all of the cannons to get aboard. The team shrugs the warning aside.
