Gears can be used to transfer motion from a spinning object to an object you want to rotate (ex: another shaft, a wheel, an arm, etc.). In addition to transferring motion, gears can be used to change the speed and torque inside a mechanism. Speed and torque are inversely proportional. This means that as one increases, the other must be reduced.

The only common metric gears in FRC is used in some of the automotive window & throttle motors. Module 1.25 gearing is the most similar to the 20dp gearing while module 1.0 gearing is equivlent to a 25.4dp.
