FSM FISHERIES AND MARITIME INSTITUTE (FSM-FMI) is located on the island of Yap, occupying the facilities built in the late 1960’s for the Loran Station operated by the United States Coast Guard. The Institute is situated some six miles north of the capital, Colonia.

FSM FISHERIES AND MARITIME INSTITUTE (FSM-FMI) is located on the island of Yap, occupying the facilities built in the late 1960’s for the Loran Station operated by the United States Coast Guard. The Institute is situated some six miles north of the capital, Colonia.

The COM-FSM operates a Fisheries and Maritime Institute (FMI) in Yap State. The FMI provides two-year, certificate level vocational courses in navigation, marine engineering and fishing technology. Although the FMI has been in existence since 1999, the demand for its courses is extremely low. Enrolments in 2009 were only 37 students.

Admission into the training programs at the FSM FMI is open at least 3 months before the commencement of the programs, with announcements being posted in public places, news-papers for wider circulation and broadcast stations in each of the States.
