This scoring system, originally developed in 1961 by David Ferriman and John Gallwey, provides a standardized approach to quantify hair growth in women, facilitating diagnosis, treatment decisions, and monitoring of therapeutic efficacy.

This study included 227 patients who were diagnosed with hirsutism and had mFG scores of ≥ 8.
