The fighting game community, often abbreviated to FGC, is a collective of video gamers who play fighting games such as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros., Tekken, Soulcalibur, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter and many others.

When a Smash player picks up traditional fighting games the FGC no longer defines them as Smash players, they're FGC newcomers who happen to come from Smash. Naturally, that's the series they've gravitated towards in the competitive scene. It just means there's a bit of a generational divide between the FGC and Smash community.
