The DOK trial was launched in 1978 in Therwil (canton of Basel-Country) on a pseudogleyic Luvisol. The trial compares three farming systems: biodynamic (D), bioorganic (O) and conventional (K; German: konventionell) agriculture.

The DOK-long term trial - unique in its conception - compares the consequences of bio-organic, bio-dynamic and conventional farming systems in a randomised plot trial that has no other equivalent. The findings of this experiment were published in Science in 2002 (Mäder et al., 2002) with a big response in the scientific world.
