2020年8月3日 · So that was it. Since I can't activate flexraid on a different setup, it was over. I've been running tests on snapraid and drivepool. All very nice. Elucidate is Great!! Thanks to the developer for that, truly wonderful application. Overall, a better setup than Flexraid, just not in one package. But everything else is nicer this way.

2016年5月18日 · IMHO, this makes no sense, as I know of no FlexRAID expansion that's not XRAID compatible unless you've done so outside the GUI via SSH. But it is what it is, and I know of no work-around. I have documented how to do XRAID-like expansion of a FlexRAID volume from SSH: How-to-do-incremental-vertical-expansion-in-FlexRAID-mode.

2019年4月10日 · Contrary to a Netgear KB article on the subject, you cannot switch from FlexRAID to XRAID once you have a vertically expanded volume (even if it was XRAID that did the expansion before you switched). You start by inserting the new, larger drives one at a time and allowing them to re-sync the existing data and OS volumes.

2017年4月7日 · It seems as though the flexraid format needs to have disks of the same size. So a flexraid (RAID5) array of two 2TB diks and two 5TB disks will yeild a usable volume of 6TB (esentially wasting 3TB of each 5TB disk, and reserving one 2TB disk for redundancy)?

2019年5月29日 · Will XRAID then start expansion of the volume to fill the 4TB drive, or can it be done in FlexRAID? My experiments were with equally sized drives, so I don't know. Even if it does, you'd end up with a very odd configuration: a 1TB single-drive RAID1 and a 3TB single-drive RAID1 on the same drive with a BTRFS file system spanning them.

2012年12月22日 · Re: xraid2 or flexraid Mirroring does not protect against user error, and it does not protect against hardware or software failures in the NAS itself. Also, it does not protect against environmental problems (power surge, flood, etc) or theft.

2017年6月1日 · As for the comment on OS4.2.x supporting FlexRAID expansion, OS4.2.x always had different capabilities than OS6.x. This horizontal expansion capability is definately new in 6.x. @jak0lantash says it was added in 6.7.0, and I'll believe that until shown otherwise. I no longer have any systems on anything earlier.

2016年11月10日 · Flexraid is kind of all over the place, several different solutions, their own pooling implementation, they struggle to differentiate and explain (or even name) their solutions. My recollection is that the developer was always working on the 'next big thing'.....he could never settle on exactly what product he wanted to make.
