Florida reef geckos are one of 4 subspecies of Sphaerodactylus notatus which occur throughout the Caribbean, with only the Florida reef gecko occurring in Florida. Adults are between 2 to 2.4 inches (5.1 – 5.7 cm) in snout-to-vent length. In Florida, this species is restricted to coastal habitats in South Florida, including the Florida Keys.

Florida reef geckos occur in four South Florida counties, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach (Krysko and King 2002, Krysko et al. 2019). This species is constrained to coastal areas and is typically found within 1.2 km (0.75 mi) of the coast.
