A Refuge for Saving the Wildlife uses foster homes to provide birds with the care and socialization they need while they await their forever homes. Foster homes become acquainted with a bird’s unique personality and behaviors, and they can share their knowledge with prospective adopters.

Our volunteer foster families are knowledgeable and experienced in the care of exotic animals, with assistance from veterinarian Brandon Barrett, DVM. Our Mission is to improve the standard of care for all exotic animals through education, rehabilitation and adoption, and providing sanctuary for animals that are unable to live as pets.

What does fostering entail? You provide a loving home for a homeless parrot until they find their permanent home. This can be several weeks to several months until they are adopted. There is a long list of wonderful parrots waiting to enter our parrot adoption program. Remember, we turn away an average of 30 birds each month due to lack of foster and adoptive homes. The SNPERRS rehoming program includes exotic pet birds (parrots) only. We do not conduct rescue/rehoming for protected native species or introduced birds, including pigeons, starlings, or house sparrows.
