2011年5月6日 · There are many different variations of the Ford 8.8 axle. One of them is best suited for the use in a Jeep and that would be the Explorer (or Mountaineer) 31 spline 8.8. If you have found one off a Aerostar, Mustang, F-150 etc, you should really pass it up and look for a Explorer axle if you wish to retain a similar track width on your Wrangler.

2002年1月13日 · The 8.8 not only has a larger ring diameter, it also has has 1.62" pinion shaft, and even that, doesnt tell the whole story. If you remove the ring and pinions from a D44 and an 8.8 and side by side compare them, you will without a doubt, know which one is built to handle more abuse. the 8.8 is huge in mass compared the 44.

2006年7月8日 · Got my brand new Ford 8.8 with disc brakes from Ariel Performance in Oklahoma thru eBay for only 400 bucks plus freight charge. Much better than junkyard 8.8 which usualy cost about the same as the new one and you don't have to rebuilt the new 8.8 except put locker in. Ford 8.8 has much bigger spline than Dana 44 and easy to install too.

2008年2月24日 · I need to narrow a explorer 8.8 axle a wee bit. RockAuto.com lists the axle shafts as being 27-5/8 and 30-1/2 inches long. Can I cut a few inches out of the long side, and sleeve and weld the tubes back together? And then use the short side axle shaft for both sides? Thus shortening the axle without having to buy custom lenght shafts.

The R/P are supposedly the weak link on the 8.8 where as the U-joints on the d44 would eventually be a weak link that couldn't be upgraded without some really crazy axle modification.
