2010年10月9日 · The car was a mid '70's Lincoln Mark VII I think. I'm almost 100% sure it was a 9 inch rear end and not the double braced 9-3/8 gear piece. The pinion would just barely fit through the hole in the case. I remember checking the ratio and I remembered it being in the 2.30's I think it had a 15 tooth pinion.

These tooth counts have a common whole-number factor of 3. This ratio has the same pinion teeth engage exactly the same ring gear teeth on every ring gear revolution.

2018年8月25日 · My car (65 Merc Cyclone) came with an 8 inch rear end with a 3:1 gear ratio. Someone replaced it with a 9 inch that has a 2.9 gear ratio. The engine is a BP 306 making 390 hp. Transmission is a toploader. I don't know if it's a close ratio or standard ratio. Based on how it drives I think it's a close ratio. Tires are 26.9 diameter.

2010年9月14日 · Not true. Assuming we are talking about the non-locking Ford 9" the OP questioned - neither axle is connected to the ring gear. Both axles are connected to their respective side gears, which are turned by the pinion gears (often nicknamed 'spider gears') which are turned by the carrier with the pinion shaft(s).

2017年9月2日 · If the rear diff is already out, ask the seller to count the number of teeth on the ring gear and pinion gear. Divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number on the pinion and that will be your ratio. Never mind. I just reread your post and you didn't say the diff was out so this probably isn't too helpful.

2014年1月1日 · To my knowledge all 3-3/8" are Nodular case. These diffs are HD, but hard finding parts, and ring gear ratio selection is limited and most what you will find is used. If unit is in good shape and have or can find the gear ratio you want no reason not to run it. 9" has unending parts and gear selection making it a good choice otherwise.
