Allard Motor Company kicked off production in 1946, with three models, all based on the Ford Pilot chassis: the J, competition car; the K, larger two-seater intended for road use and the L, a four-seater. Power came from an upgraded 3.6-litre flathead V8, produced by Ford in Dagenham, with 85hp, driving though a three-speed box.

2024年7月23日 · Introduced in 1950, the J2 model was developed by Allard as a lightweight sports racer targeting the US market and featured a steel ladder frame wearing aluminum bodywork with a louvered hood and front cycle fenders.

The Allard Special was based on a Ford 48 3.2 litre V8. The solid front axle needed extensive modification to obtain more articulation and maximum vertical wheel movement. Sydney realised that in trialing it was essential to keep the front wheels on ground as much as possible, particularly if you had a torquey engine and good traction.

These favourable characteristics enabled Allard cars to establish a formidable competition record in the immediate post-war years; Allard himself finished 3rd at Le Mans in 1950 driving a J2 two-seater and in 1952 won Monte Carlo Rally outright in a P2 saloon, a unique achievement likely never to be repeated.

Sydney Allard, a hugely talented engineer and a true motorsports enthusiast, built many Ford based specials under his own name before the war, most of which were powered by the phenomenally successful flathead V8.

The first Allard mounted a Ford flat-head V8 in a body mostly sourced from a Bugatti racing car, and used the American engine's high torque to great effect in this slow-speed competition. Further Allards were soon built, all specially ordered, and fitted with a variety of large, Ford-sourced engines, including Lincoln-Zephyr V12 power-plants.
