In 1951 Ford Motor Company was awarded the contract to design a ¼-ton 4×4 truck to replace the M38 and M38A1 model jeeps. The M151 was developed to specifications and guidance of the U.S. Army's Ordnance Tank Automotive Command.

2015年8月5日 · The M151AlC 106mm Recoilless Rifle Carrier is based on the M151A1. It was replaced by the M825 based on the M151A2, which has the M40 106mm recoilless rifle mounted in the rear. This model in turn was replaced by a similar vehicle mounting the Hughes TOW ATGW missile. MUTTs were also fitted with searchlights and mine-detecting gear.

The M825 was a modification of the standard M151A2. When the 106mm M40A1 was mounted on the M151A2 it became the M825, when mounted on the M151A1 , the vehicle was the M151A1C. Special training was necessary for drivers of the M151A1C and M825 as the center of gravity was higher than the standard M151, a vehicle already prone to rollover.

Remarks: In 1971 the M825 started coming off the production line, and to at first supplement and then replace the M151A1C. While many received new recoil-less rifles and mounts, many (par-ticularly in the field simply switched weapon and mount from the old vehicle to the new.

2024年12月26日 · Thanks to the improved suspension of the M151A2, the M825 experienced fewer rollover accidents compared to its predecessor, making it a more stable and reliable mobile anti-tank platform.
