VCO - MathWorks
VCO or voltage controlled oscillator is a voltage to frequency converter. It produces an output square wave signal whose frequency is controlled by the voltage at the input vctrl port. The frequency of the output signal, F is determined either by: F = (K V C O · V c t r l) + F o. where: or from linear interpolation using the mapping:
Voltage-controlled oscillator - Wikipedia
A voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is an electronic oscillator whose oscillation frequency is controlled by a voltage input. The applied input voltage determines the instantaneous oscillation frequency. Consequently, a VCO can be used for frequency modulation (FM) or phase modulation (PM) by applying a modulating signal to the
VCO Type I • To maximize tuning range, we wish to minimize C1. • But C1 is given by: - Caps of M1 and M2 (including 4Cgd)-Cap of L1 - Input cap of next stage • Tuning range may be limited.
vco( ) vco C dθ t ω fv dt == Thus, if control voltage v C is a constant with respect to time, the oscillator frequency will likewise be a constant—the oscillator will produce a “pure” tone of the form: v vco vco(tcos)= (ωt+θ 0) Conversely, if the control voltage is time-varying, the oscillator frequency will also change with respect ...
This report is an introduction to voltage controlled oscillators. Two styles of VCO (the LC oscillator and the RC relaxation oscillator) are described as well as the factors that influence their design and selection, the recent advances in the design of these circuits, and the next probable advance of these circuits in the state of the art.
Table 1.1 summarizes the general specifications for (integrated) VCO design. Main specifications are center frequency, tuning range, power supply voltage, power consumption and phase noise specifications.

VCO Design Overview
The odd harmonics (3rd order in particular) of the VCO are not of much concern because such harmonics are not detrimental to multiplication action of the mixer. In fact, presence of odd harmonics often helps to shape the output wave to have sharper transitions when crossing zero, which is desirable in wireline systems.
VCO-Based Quantizer - SpringerLink
2011年1月1日 · In this chapter a detailed analysis on the operation and architecture of the voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO)-based ADC is presented. The VCO-based quantizer is analyzed for two different architectures, one using a frequency-to-digital converter (FDC) the other a time-to-digital converter (TDC).
6.5: Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) - Engineering LibreTexts
2022年5月22日 · As its name implies, a controlling voltage sets the frequency of the output of a VCO. The block diagram of a VCO is shown in Figure 6.4.8 (a) where a slowly varying input signal, vi, determines the frequency, f0, of the signal produced by an oscillator. This is usually achieved by varying the capacitance of a varactor diode in a resonator.
VCO with 555 Timer: Mastering Voltage Control - Warren Institute
This formula allows us to determine the frequency range of the VCO based on the values of the resistors and capacitor used in the circuit. Can you provide step-by-step instructions on how to build and test a voltage controlled oscillator circuit using a 555 Timer, including the relevant mathematical calculations involved?
