Fort Custer State Recreation Area is a 3,033-acre park located between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. The park features three lakes, the Kalamazoo River, a modern and equestrian campground, a swimming beach, boat rentals, more than 40 miles of trails, paddling and fishing opportunities, second-growth forests and remnant areas of prairie.

Fort Custer Recreation Area campground is open year round and has 219 campsites with electric & water hookups. Five cabins are also available for rent. Group camping is available.

Its purpose would be to establish a museum that commemorates the installation, which began in 1917 with the construction of Camp Custer and, Michigan’s Military history. An intact World War II enlisted barracks was located on the facility and moved into the installation's historical district.
