Since the 1960s, French Canadians in Québec have generally used Québécois (masculine) or Québécoise (feminine) to express their cultural and national identity, rather than Canadien Français and Canadienne Française. One of our few, true folk dances, La Bastringue is still danced by “folk” in Quebec Canada, as part of a longer dance suite. Some say “la bastringue” means “the hoedown.” Some say it means “the honkey-tonk.”

In English Canadian folk dance, the square dance is the most widely disseminated dance, popular from Newfoundland to BC. However, recent growth of the step dance contest, especially in Ontario, has catapulted this form into the limelight.

It is, however, possible to identify certain dances, such as “Brandy,” danced in this show during the New Year’s Eve party, as being of Scottish origin. There are significant variations in the gigue that reflect cultural differences.

2014年7月26日 · Learned from France Bourque-Moreau. Les Saluts is one figure in the quadrille dance Le Saratoga. It's appropriate for beginners and children. Two versions are presented here. Formation: A closed circle of men on the outside, a closed circle of women in the inside, both in V position. You must have equal numbers of dancers in both circles.
