The Blackburn Skua was the first operational monoplane in the British Fleet Air Arm, also the first designed specifically for the dive bombing role. Replacing the Hawker Osprey and Nimrod, the aircraft entered service in 1938. It was on strength of 800, 801,803, 806 Sqd., as well as numerous second line squadrons.

The Skua was designed during the mid-1930s to Specification O.27/34, and was a radical design for the era, combining the functions of a dive bomber and fighter. Its enclosed cockpit and monoplane configuration were obvious shifts from preceding FAA aircraft such as the Hawker Nimrod and Hawker Osprey biplanes.

The Frog/Novo/Revell model is the one representation of the Skua that actually gets the shape of the flaps correct, albeit the representation is very crude, consisting of just raised lines. The Magna and Final Touch wings get the shape of the flaps wrong!

2022年3月13日 · Whether you find this kit under the original Frog label, the later Novo label or the current label of some eastern European manufacturer the best thing that can be said for it is that it looks more like a Blackburn Skua than most other model kits.

2021年1月25日 · Yes, the FROG Skua was not one of their better efforts, even taking into account its age. The wing chord is too narrow and it lacks the bomb cradle and recess on the underside. I built one a few years ago and I replaced the kit's canopy with a Falcon vacform.

The Blackburn Skua is one of the those often forgotten British Naval aircraft of WW2, but nevertheless played an important and historic part in the Fleet Air Arm's short history.
