I created our FTO program back in 1987 and was the coordinator until 2004. I wore gold FTO pins in place of my chevrons and the other FTO's wore silver ones. The FTO's now wear it on their nametags. If your FTO program was like mine they nit pick EVERYTHING at first and make you look like the worst recruit ever on the daily evaluations. Other than that get two black ink pens, a pocket size notebook, maybe a legal size notepad for taking other notes on and some type of organizer for department specific forms you may use on patrol.
