The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. Italy assumed the G20 2021 Presidency on the 1 December 2020

The 2021 G20 Rome summit was the sixteenth meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20), a Head of State and Government meeting held in Rome, the capital city of Italy. It was the first G20 summit hosted by the country.

The G20 comprises 19 countries including: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and United States and two regional bodies, namely the European Union and the African Union.

A side event at the G20 in Rome highlighted the role of design in the diffusion of a recognisable image of Italy throughout the world. The three key words of the G20 – People, Planet, Prosperity – were flanked by other three key words of the Italian design: Innovation, Responsibility, Creativity.

On 30 and 31 October 2021, G20 leaders met for a two-day summit hosted by the Italian G20 presidency in Rome. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, represented the EU. At the end of the meeting, the G20 leaders adopted a G20 leaders' declaration.
