U36B Phases. GE used a common body for the various U-boats, so this list is based on phases of the U30B. Phase II with the forward radiator intake mounted high had oil bath filters; low-mounted intake was for paper air filters.

Locomotive #4001 was part of auto-train's first batch of locomotives -- a U36B built by GE in November 1971 (builder's number 38032) to specifications of the SCL. Wrecked and scrapped March 1973.

Auto Train U36B 4000 rests outside the GE plant in Erie, PA November 16, 1971. The 4000 was the first U36B built for A-T with 12 more following over the next few years. A-T eventually ended up with 13 U36Bs, built to SCL specs including the EMD Blomberg trucks.

The GE U36B is a four-axle 3,600 hp (2.7 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Electric from 1969 to 1974. It was primarily used by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad and its successors, although thirteen provided the power for the original Auto Train. The U36B was the last GE high-horsepower universal series locomotive.
