Canadian Pacific Railway 8205-8252 were GP9u locomotives. They were originally built by GMD as GP9 road switcher locomotives, and were substantially rebuilt by CP's Ogden Shops between 1988 and 1990.

The EMD GP9 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1954 and 1959. The GP9 succeeded the GP7 as the second model of EMD's General Purpose (GP) line, [1] incorporating a new sixteen- cylinder engine which generated 1,750 horsepower (1.30 MW). [2] .

Canadian Pacific Railway 1512-1652, 1688-1697 were GP9u locomotives. They were originally built by GMD as GP9 road switcher locomotives, and were substantially rebuilt by CP's Ogden Shops between 1980 and 1988.

During dieselization, Canadian Pacific acquired 200 GP9 units from General Motors Diesel Division (GMDD). These units were delivered over five years, from 1954 to 1959, and included units from three “phases” as changes were made to the design over that time.
