Electro-Motive GP20 Diesels 2003, Class GP-20, was built in April 1960, #25564, FN 7583-4, as Great Northern 2003, Class GP-20. It became BN 2003, Class GP-20, in 1970 and retired in August 1986.

Burlington Northern Railroad GP20 2002 at Saint Paul, Minnesota on May 22, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 2002 was built in April 1960 as GN GP20 2002 (c/n 25563), retained that road number under the BN, retired 3/28/1983 Sold to Smith Bros. 5/27/1983.

Three GP20's delivered new to GN in April/May 1960. All became BN with the same roster numbers. 2012 was retired by BN in 1/89. Sold to Ziegler, repowered as a GP20C and re# as 2004.

All GP20s built low nose with 2350g fuel tanks and dynamic brakes unless otherwise noted.

2022年9月7日 · The EMD GP20 model was born out of the necessity by EMD to get greater horsepower out of a diesel locomotive. During the late 1950s, trains became heavier, schedules tighter, and there was a call for locomotives with more horsepower.

Further experiments in 1959 created a four-axle version, dubbed the GP20. Western Pacific was impressed by the new model's ability to deliver maximum horsepower at various altitudes and ordered the first six. Great Northern followed suit shortly after, ordering 36 units.
