The EMD SD9 is a model of diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1954 and June 1959. An EMD 567C 16- cylinder engine generated 1,750 horsepower (1.30 MW). Externally similar to its predecessor, the SD7, the SD9 was built with the improved and much more maintainable 567C engine.

Sold to General Metals 12/28/1983.

1991年3月30日 · The SD9 had a starting tractive force of 91,000 lb, which was 42 percent greater than a four-motor geep. The TE differential, which represented a substantial savings in long-term operating costs, caught the attention of more than a couple of first-time buyers.

6157 and 6158 were the two BN SD9's that got chopped noses. 6158 was assigned to Alliance and was a regular on the Deadwood Job in the 70's. And I believe 6127 was the first Q SSD90.

BN SD9 6121 was built 4/58 as the Great Northern 694. The 1750 HP EMD was delivered in GN's Empire Builder scheme. It went straight from this to Big Sky Blue. In 1969 it and SD9 593 were both assigned to the Dakota Division, the only two SD9's assigned to this Division.
