The GER Classes S46, D56 and H88 (classified Classes D14, D15, and D16 by the London and North Eastern Railway) were three classes of similar 4-4-0 steam locomotive designed by James Holden (S46 and D56) and A. J. Hill (H88) for the Great Eastern Railway.

The pioneer D14, No. 1900 Claud Hamilton was the only locomotive to be named when built. It gave its name to the entire class which would often be known as the 'Clauds' (D14 & D15) or 'Super Clauds' (D16). No. 8900 (GER 1900) was rebuilt with a Gresley boiler in 1933.

British Railways inherited 397 pre-Grouping 4-4-0s locomotives from the LNER. In addition to these, the LNER built 34 4-4-0s to existing designs and 76 three-cylinder D49 s. All of these locomotives survived into British Railways ownership, although one of the three-cylinder locomotives had been rebuilt with two cylinders.

The rebuilding of the original D14 class locomotives started in 1915 and many of those rebuilt were fitted with Robinson superheaters. These then became D15 class locomotives. The overall classification of the locomotives of the D15 and D16 locomotives is quite complex due to the number of rebuilds.
