These engines were classified as J19 by the GNR (not to be confused with the LNER J19 Class), and were virtually identical to the other members of this class. Only No. 470 survived into LNER ownership. In 1914, No. 470 was converted to oil burning using the Holden system, and the rear section of the coupling rods were removed (see picture).

2004年2月15日 · Although originally delivered by Manning Wardle to the West Yorkshire in 1863, the locomotive known to the Great Northern later as the J19 was the product of Patrick Stirling's rebuilding nine years later. It's not clear when 471 was retired, but 470 was converted to an oil-burning 0-4-2ST by removing the rearmost coupling rods.

They all passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the 1923 grouping and received the classification J19. These locomotives were a development of the GER Class E72, and shared the same 20-by-28-inch (508 mm × 711 mm) cylinders, 4-foot-11-inch (1.499 m) wheels, and Belpaire firebox -fitted boiler.

The Hill J18 & J19 (GER Classes E72 & T77) 0-6-0 Locomotives. Hill's Great Eastern Railway (GER) Class E72 (LNER J18) was a development of the still saturated J17 goods locomotive. The J18 added superheating and piston valves to the design.

The GNR Ivatt Class 1 0-6-0 (LNER Class J1) was a class of fifteen inside-cylinder 0-6-0s designed for express goods work. They were Henry Ivatt's first original class of 0-6-0. Ivatt had previously designed a modified version of Patrick Stirling's J5 Class of 1873.

Stirling GNR J19 Tank Engine In 1863, the West Yorkshire Railway ordered two 0-6-0T engines from Manning Wardle, which were taken over with the rest of the WYR in 1865. They were substantially rebuilt in 1872 by Stirling , and numbered as 470 and 471. These rebuilds were almost completely new engines with only the original wheel centres remaining.
