The EMD GP39 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between June 1969 and July 1970. The GP39 was a derivative of the GP38 equipped with a turbocharged EMD 645E3 12- cylinder engine which generated 2,300 hp (1.72 MW). [1][2] 23 examples of this locomotive model were built for American railroads. [3]

Rebuilt Electro-Motive GP39E, GP39M, GP39V Diesels 2750, GP30u, Class GP-39E, was built in April 1963, #28268, FN 7650-8, as Great Northern 3007, Class GP-30. It became BN 2207, Class GP-30, in 1970 and rebuilt by Electro-Motive as 2750, Class GP-39E, on March 31, 1989.

The 2 CSX Dash 8s and the GP39E were nice supprises! When I saw the 39, it was the rear engine behind a H2 Dash 9, B40-8 8637 and patched B40-8W 541 (i think). It was on the east leg of the wye, hooked upto a bunch of coil cars, with a single auto rack about 7 cars back.... Foamer

2023年8月1日 · Twenty-three four-axle EMD GP39s rolled out of EMD’s La Grange (Ill.) factory between June 1969 and July 1970, sporting the builder’s reliable 645E3 V12 prime mover producing 2,300 hp. Basically it was an offshoot of the popular 2,000 hp, 16-cylinder GP38 but equipped with 12-cylinder engine and a turbocharger.

BN GP39E. In the early 1990s, BN rebuilt a series of GP30s and GP35s into GP39Es (if EMD did the work), Vs (if VMV did the work), or Ms (if MK did the work). If the GP30s originally had a low hood there was little external difference when the rebuild was finished.
