The doors are the same but the louver placements are different. This, however may may not be a definitive difference… The GP9 (phase 2, - 36" fans) and GP9 (Phase 3, - 48" fans) are different.

GP7 to become the 1,750 horsepower GP9. Externally, the first GP9s wer. virtually unchanged from the last GP7s. Later versions would include different louver arrangements and the last on.

You can tell a GP7 and GP9 apart by the fact that the GP7 has two sets of louvers on the battery box door directly below the cab, a feature that the GP9, 18 and 20 lack. Also, the GP7 and 9 have 'chicken wire' air intakes, the GP18 and 20 have a 'barred' style.
