2023年4月28日 · The piping on the rear reservoir of the GP7 was an L shape on both sides, extending rearward then vertically behind the side skirt. On the GP9 this was changed to a horizontal pipe between the reservoirs on the left side, and a vertical pipe that went straight under the side skirt on the right side.

These 'Phase II' GP9's also debuted the trademark -- classic! -- SP five light package both front and rear, the passenger GP's had the large dual purpose 'Ash can' or 'beer barrel' signal light. These and most of the subsequent orders were delivered in Black Widow paint.

Starting in 1970 with #3424 all existing GP9's were rebuilt into GP9E's and GP9R's with the number series beginning at #3300. Because of the internal differences of the three 'Phases', different 'rebuild' schemes were required, so they were placed into different number series.
