The EMD GP9 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1954 and 1959. The GP9 succeeded the GP7 as the second model of EMD's General Purpose (GP) line, [1] incorporating a new sixteen- cylinder engine which generated 1,750 horsepower (1.30 MW). [2] .

The EMD GP9 "General Purpose" line of high-hood, diesel-electric-powered locomotives was produced by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors (GM) and General Motors Diesel (GMD - Canada) from 1954 to 1963 to the tune of 4,092 units. The system went on to serve various customers across both North and South America.

2024年12月20日 · Train 166 eases up to Terrace Drive at the south end of East Binghamton, passing a yard job with a pair of GP 9 rebuilds. D 22 returns to Binghamton after a trip to Afton and Bainbridge. Leading is D&H "heritage" unit 7303. D 22 is in the siding at Afton as 8858 rolls past with 90 or so cars for New England.
