A novel group of autoantibodies, ANCAs, helps support the diagnosis of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis and related forms of vasculitis and gives insight into the pathogenesis of these diseases. ANCAs are directed against enzymes cantained in primary granules of neutrophils and monocytes. Two main types of ANCAs are recognized.
