The EMD GP9 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1954 and 1959. The GP9 succeeded the GP7 as the second model of EMD's General Purpose (GP) line, [1] incorporating a new sixteen- cylinder engine which generated 1,750 horsepower (1.30 MW). [2] .

The EMD GP9R was a rebuild from EMD GP9 diesel locomotives that were rebuilt by the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company, Grand Trunk Western Railroad, Southern Pacific Transportation Company.

2024年11月15日 · In the late 1980s, the GTW decided to rebuild a portion of its aging GP9 fleet, which even then was the backbone of the Trunk's fleet, into modern GP9-equivalents. Original GTW units, along with some that had been reassigned from the Central Vermont and Grand Trunk Railways, were selected to be rebuilt.

Despite a network of less than 300 miles its hotly contested Detroit - Chicago market was a vital artery for CN in reaching America's railroad capital.

2008年10月27日 · Here are a few GP9R photos from CN921, the Kalamazoo Switch Run. This run always has some kind of former GTW power, either a GP9R or a GP38-2 in the 4900 series. It's so interesting to see the history of these vintage units, most of which still call Michigan home after all these decades!
