2020年3月19日 · The East Somerset Railway (ESR) have confirmed that Great Western Railway 4500 Class No.4555 has arrived at their heritage line. An arrangement between the Dartmouth Steam Railway and ESR will see 4555 based at the ESR for the next three years.

Number 4555 onwards were fitted with outside steam pipes and lengthened frames at the rear as standard. Some previous members of the class were also modified but not all.

The ex GWR Small Prairie 2-6-2T No. 4555, will be going on hire to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, to be their main steam locomotive for the 2024 season from March 2024. No. 4555, has also had a repaint into British Railways livery as well.

A West Country-based engine, built by the GWR in Swindon in 1924, No 4555 worked occasionally on our branch and headed the last BR freight train on the line in 1962. She was purchased for preservation straight from BR service in 1965 and was the first engine to arrive on the newly preserved line in 1965, closely followed by No 3205.
