The Great Western Railway (GWR) 7200 Class is a class of 2-8-2T steam locomotive. They were the only 2-8-2Ts built and used by a British railway, [1] and the largest tank engines to run on the Great Western Railway.

2013年7月15日 · The first engine modified was number 5277 which became number 7200. The frames were lengthened by 4 feet 1 inch so as to include a trailing pony truck and to increase the coal and water capacity from 4 tons and 1,800 gallons to 6 tons and 2,500 gallons respectively.

7200 began life in 1930 originally as a 2-8-0T numbered 5275, the first engine built to Great Western railway lot no.266 (a batch order of twenty new 2-8-0T engines). The building cost of 5275 was £4,380 which included £933 for the boiler.

It was converted to the prototype of the 2-8-2T 7200 class, the final development of the GWR eight-coupled freight tank locomotive. The conversion included extending the frames by 4ft 1in, adding a radial truck with 3ft 8in diameter wheels; increasing the water capacity to 2500 gallons and the coal capacity to 6 tons.

The GWR solved the problem by converting some of the class to 2-8-2Ts to enable them to carry more fuel. The work was carried out at Swindon, starting with 5275, which returned to traffic as a 2-8-2T, numbered 7200 in August 1934.
